At Avalanche, I handled the damage tuning for two unreleased characters: Hulk Premium and Buzz Lightyear Premium. I took multiple factors into consideration when tuning damage values for these characters including source material, mobility, range, AOE sizes, and the damage output of other characters. Additionally, I utilized a few different spreadsheets to aid in tuning and balance.
Damage Comparison Sheet
The spreadsheet below compares the damage output of all Disney Infinity avatars released or in development, and was shared among designers at Avalanche. Hulk Premium had a slightly lower total combo damage output than the original Hulk, but made up for it with a much faster and more relentless base combo. Buzz Premium meanwhile was mid-tier in terms of DPS, but made up for it with his exceptional speed, ranged attacks, and aerial capabilities.
Individual Attack Damage Overviews
These were the spreadsheets I created to help tune the individual attack damages of Hulk Premium and Buzz Premium. They highlight the damage values of different attacks (before and after upgrades), combo duration, and other relevant information. I aimed to have most combos follow a gradual curve in their attacks' damage values. This was primarily to provide a satisfying finish to each combo and reward their completion.
