Food Fight is a tabletop strategy game in which players control elementary school students engaged in a massive, messy lunchtime battle. There are a number of different unit types, such as Preps, Jocks, and Nerds, each with their own unique stats and abilities. In addition, there several varieties of foods that can be used as edible ammunition. The players must battle over which class is supreme, and finish before the end-of-lunch bell rings!
I designed this game along with its rules, cards, and board.
Food Fight was my favorite tabletop game to design at DigiPen. I decided to intentionally avoid the sci-fi, fantasy, or military themes often found in strategy games and make something a little more nontraditional. I realized that the typical school stereotypes led themselves well to character classes, and that food acted as an interesting sort of "weapon." I also intentionally designed the game with an emphasis on simplicity. I reduced the game's stats only to what was necessary, and avoided including any form of math or complex charts in combat. I am pleased with the way that this game turned out, as it had a unique premise and gameplay that was simple but fast-paced and fun.
